regarding media coverage of the murder of Arnela Djogic
The Complaints Commission of the Press Council in BiH held its 67th session on May 27th 2016, where it considered 20 complaints received in the prior three months: 12 complaints were upheld, as a breach of the Press Code of BiH was found, while 8 complaints were not upheld.
In addition to considering citizens’ complaints regarding the coverage of the press and online media in BiH, the Complaints Commission discussed the media coverage of the murder of Arnela Djogic from Olovo.
Media coverage of this crime is based on the statements from the lawsuit of the Cantonal Prosecution, which is published for the public on the Prosecution’s website. This lawsuit holds all the details of this cruel crime against the girl Arnela Djogic.
The objective of such reporting about this cruel act, disclosing the details of the murder found in the lawsuit, is to point out to the public the brutality of the perpetrator.
Such coverage is, in this specific case, in the public’s interest, because its intent is to assist the public in reaching personal opinions and decisions regarding this tragic event, including the efforts of the investigative organs to uncover the details of the manner of execution of this sever felony.
