During the two-day regional conference dedicated to self-regulation, organized by and under initiative of the Council of Europe, which concluded today in Budva, the Network of Media Self-Regulatory Bodies of South-East Europe was founded. This network shall serve as a platform for regional cooperation and experience exchange with the aim of advancing the quality and professionalism of the media and ethical journalism in the region. The abbreviated name of the Network is “Media NEThics”.
The task of this regional association is to raise the awareness of network members, media and media professionals, as well as society as a whole, about the essential principles of self-regulation and professionalism, as well as to examine cross-border complaints across countries in the region.
Representatives of self-regulatory bodies from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro have reached a decision for the seat of the network to be in Monte Negro, while Ranko Vujovic, Executive Secretary of the Media Council for Self-Regulation of Monte Negro, was elected as the president.
Representatives from Albania, who are in the process of founding a self-regulatory body, have announced that they will join the newly-formed association.
