    Chronology of Appointment / Resolution of Members of the Press Council in BiH

    11th June 2009. 


    At the 10th meeting of the Press Council in BiH Steering Board, held on June 11th 2009. in Sarajevo, three new members of the Complaints Commission were elected: prof. Dr. Nada Ler-Sofronić, Psychologist and Director of the Center „Women and Society“ from Sarajevo; Lawyer Nada Dalipagić from Mostar and Judge Nada Arsenic from Gracanica.

    Thus, the composition of the Complaints Commission of the Press Council in BiH for the following two years is as follows: prof.Dr. MIODRAG ZIVANOVIĆ, Professor of Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy in Banja Luka, DRAŽEN ZUBAK, Lawyer from Sarajevo, GORAN JANKOVIĆ, Mr. Communication and Academic Painter, Professor in the position of Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Communication in Banja Luka, FUAD KOVAČEVIĆ, Journalist, Deputy Editor-in-chief of the newspaper „Oslobodjenje“, Ph.D. ENES OSMANCEVIC, Assistant Professor, Professor at the Department of Journalism at the Faculty of Philosophy in Tuzla, prof.dr. NADA LER-SOFRONIC, Psychologist and Director of the Center „Women and Society“ from Sarajevo, Ms. NADA DALIPAGIC, Lawyer from Mostar and Ms. NADA ARSENIC, Judge from Gracanica.

    Membership of the Complaints Commission of the Press Council in BiH ended for the former Commission Chairman, Ms. Vildanu Selimbegovic, who, due to her transfer to the newspaper "Oslobodjenje", decided to withdraw from the Commission, leaving the place to the journalist Fuad Kovačević, who went from the news agency „Onasa“ to „Oslobodjenje“. After the expiration of the term, membership in the Complaints Commission was not resumed by Mr. Saša Bižić, reporter of the „Reporter“ magazine, and Mr. Mladen Bošnjak, journalist of the newspaper "Hercegovacke novine".

    6th July 2007.

    Ms. VILDANA SELIMBEGOVIĆ, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine „BH Dani“ was appointed as Chair of the new convocation od the Press Council in BiH Complaints Commission. Also, new members of the Emergency Complaints Commission were appointed: prof.dr.Miodrag Zivanovic, Assistant professor mr. Enes Osmancevic and Mr. Mladen Bošnjak. The members of the Emergency Commission will make the decisions on behalf of the Complaints Commission, when there are no conditions for holding a session or when urgent decisions are needed.

    The Steering Board of the Press Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina has appointed new members of the Complaints Commission for the period from 1st July 2007 until 1st July 2009. The Complaints Commission has eight members: prof.dr. MIODRAG ŽIVANOVIĆ, Professor, Faculty of Philosophy, Banja Luka; Mr. DRAZEN ZUBAK, lawyer, Sarajevo; docent mr. ENES OSMANCEVIC, Senior Assistant, Faculty of Philosophy, Department of Journalism, Tuzla; Mr. FUAD KOVAČEVIĆ, editor, ONASA agency, Sarajevo; docent mr. GORAN JANKOVIĆ, academic painter, professor in professorship, Faculty of Communication, Banja Luka; Mr. MLADEN BOŠNJAK, Editor-in-Chief, Radio Stari Most and magazine "Hercegovacke novine", Mostar / Ljubuski; Mr. SAŠA BIŽIĆ, Deputy Chief Editor and Responsible Editor, magazine "Reporter", Banja Luka; Ms. VILDANA SELIMBEGOVIĆ, Editor-in-Chief, magazine "BH Dani", Sarajevo.

Drago Brankovic, the first Bosnian-Herzegovinian Chairman of the Press Council, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in Banja Luka, Emir Habul, Deputy Chairman of the Press Council, editor of the information program "BH Radio 1" from Sarajevo, Jozo Pavkovic, Deputy Chairman of the Press Council, editor-in-chief of "Vecernji List, BiH Edition" from Siroki Brijeg, Amra Zulfikarpasic, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, Ms. Senka Kurtovic, journalist, former editor of the daily "Oslobodjenje" from Sarajevo, Mrs. Vildana Selimbegovic, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine "BH Dani" from Sarajevo, Zvonimir Jukić, editor of FTV ITC Mostar from Mostar, Mladen Bosnjak, Chairman of the "Society of Journalists of BiH" and editor of "Hercegovacke novine" from Ljubuski, Dragan Močević, director of the Public Relations Research Agency "Prime Communications" from Banja Luka, Goran Mihajlovic, editor of "Pravda" magazine in Banja Luka, Dragan Jerinić, editor of the daily newspaper "Nezavisne novine" from Banja Luka and prof. Fadil Ademovic, a professor and publicist from Sarajevo..

    Confirmed end of mandates for three members of the Press Council: Zoran Baroš, journalist of the newspaper "Kozarski vijesnik" from Prijedor, Mr. Ferdinand Zovko, music professor and opera singer from Citluk and g. Mirko Dabic, judge and president of the RS Judges Association from Banja Luka.

    25th April 2005.

    The first Bosnian-Herzegovinian Chairman of the Press Council was appionted: prof.dr. Drago Branković, dean at the Faculty of Philosophy, Banja Luka. Also two Deputy Chairmen: Mr. Jozo Pavkovic, editor-in-chief of "Vecernji list, edition for BiH" from Siroki Brijeg and g. Emir Habul, editor of the news program "BH Radio 1" from Sarajevo.

    End of the mandate of the International Chairman of the Press Council of BiH, prof. Robert Pinker, a member of the Press Complaints Commission of the United Kingdom.

    25th February 2005.

    New members of the Press Council of BiH were appointed, representatives of the press: Ms. SENKA KURTOVIĆ, Editor-in-Chief of the Oslobodjenje newspaper from Sarajevo, ZVONIMIR JUKIC, journalist of "Dnevni list" from Mostar and Mr. GORAN MIHAJLOVIC, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Glas Srpske from Banja Luka. Also nominated by as representatives of the public, Mr. DRAGAN MOCEVIC, Director of the Public Communications Research Agency Prime Communications from Banja Luka, instead of Ms. Ljiljana Mijovic, professor at the Law Faculty in Banja Luka..

    17th February 2004.

    The Independent Union of Journalists delegated a new member of the Press Council, Ms. VILDANA SELIMBEGOVIC, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine "Dani". Ms Selimbegovic was appointed to the post of Mr. Ivan Lovrenovic, a journalist of the magazine "Dani" and a publicist from Sarajevo.

    7th January 2004.

    The Association of Journalists of BiH delegated two new representatives to the Press Council: prof. FADIL ADEMOVIC, a professor and publicist from Sarajevo and MLADEN BOŠNJAK, President of the Association of Journalists of BiH and editor of "Hercegovacke novine" from Mostar. They have been appointed instead of prof.dr. Besim Spahic, a professor at the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo, Daria Novalic, director of the magazine "Start" from Sarajevo

    November 2003.

    Independent Union of Professional Journalists delegated the designer, Mr. AMRU ZULFIKARPASIC, professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, in the membership of the Press Council of BiH. Ms. Zulfikarpasic replaced the former representative of this organization from the public order, prof.dr. Šaćira Filandra, a professor at the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo.

    June 2003.

    The Independent Association of Journalists of the Republika Srpska has appointed a new member of the Press Council, DRAGAN JERINIĆ, Editor in chief editor of "Nezavisne novine" from Banja Luka. Mr. Jerinić was appointed instead of Mr. Radmila Šipovca, representative of the Independent Association of Journalists of Republika Srpska.

    11th February 2002.

    Adopted decision by Lord Wakeham, the first international Chairman of the Press Council of BiH, to resign from the post of International Chairperson. Also, Lord Wakeham resigned as President of the Complaints Commission to the British press, as a moral act after bringing his name in connection with financial frauds in the company "Enron" in the UK.

    Professor ROBERT PINKER, former Acting President of the Press Complaints Commission of Great Britain, Press was nominated and appointed as the Acting President of the BiH Press Council.

    August 2000.

    Journalists' associations proposed and approved the appointment of 12 BiH citizens for membership in the Council, 6 members of the press, 6 representatives of the public. Representatives of the press in the Press Council of BiH are: IVAN LOVRENOVIĆ, journalist of the "Dani" magazine from Sarajevo; Mr. ZORAN BAROŠ, journalist of the newspaper "Kozarski vijesnik" from Prijedor; Mr. RADMILO ŠIPOVAC, Editor-in-Chief of the daily newspaper "Nezavisne novine" from Banja Luka; JOZO PAVKOVIC, Editor-in-Chief of the daily newspaper "Vecernji List, edition for BiH" from Siroki Brijeg; Mr. DARIO NOVALIĆ, director of the magazine "START" from Sarajevo and Mr. EMIR HABUL, editor of the daily "Oslobodjenje" from Sarajevo. Representatives of the public are: prof.dr. ŠAĆIR FILANDRA, university professor in Sarajevo; Mr. MIRKO DABIĆ, Judge and President of the RS Judges Association from Banja Luka; prof. LJILJANA MIJOVIĆ, professor at the Law Faculty in Banja Luka; Mr. FERDINAND ZOVKO, professor of music science and opera singer from Citluk; prof.dr. BESIM SPAHIĆ, professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo and prof.dr. DRAGO BRANKOVIĆ, dean at the Faculty of Philosophy in Banja Luka.

    Mr. JOHN WAKEHAM, President of the Press Complaints Commission of Great Britain, was appointed the first international speaker of the BiH Press Council. Lord Wakeham has accepted the offer of the Working Group for the Establishment of the Press Council of BiH, to perform the duties of the first international Chairman of the Press Council of BiH. The Working Group considered that the International Presidency could create a balance between different national groups in the Press Council, and with its rich experience in self-regulation and good relations with representatives of international organizations, ensure the continuing work of this Council. According to the Statute of the Press Council, the Chairperson was elected for two years, with the possibility of extending the mandate.
