REACTION OF THE PRESS COUNCIL IN BiH - on the Statement by BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik, about the Intelligence Security Agency eavesdropping on media

REACTION OF THE PRESS COUNCIL IN BiH ON THE

Statement by BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik, about the Intelligence Security Agency eavesdropping on media

The Management Board of the Press Council in BiH expresses great concern over the yesterday's allegations by BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik that the Intelligence Security Agency (OSA) is monitoring and listening to a large number of media. In his statement he outlined the list of these media, based on the order of OSA with the protocol number 05/1 -4-1547 / 19, which allegedly ordered the "monitoring and directing" the media in BiH, in preparation for the "incrimination of politically unsuitable people", as stated in the statement.

On behalf of its members, print and online media, the Management Board of the Press Council in BiH requests an urgent investigation and verification of this information from the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, as well as the public statement of the OSA on the named protocol document and its alleged content!

Even at this point, while the eavesdropping statement and the intent to place the media under control for the purpose of political manipulation are still unverified, the pressure and disturbances not only on the named media, but also on the entire media community is still overwhelming.

Interception and monitoring of the media, with the intention of manipulating with journalists, constitutes a great endangerment of the freedom of media coverage, suppression of freedom of speech and the intimidation of journalists. These methods are absolutely unacceptable in democracy, and therefore this information on the alleged abuse of OSA's power over the media must be urgently checked and examined.

In order to protect its members, print and online media, and protect the democratic rights of journalists to report freely and safely in the public interest, the Management Board of the Press Council in BiH expects answers to questions as to whether such an order for wiretapping and monitoring the media really exists and who ordered it?

The media community will not agree to such pressures and blackmail.
